The Genesis Centre landscape is a 20 hectare multi-purpose community and user group inspired initiative in northeast Calgary. Dedicated to contributing to the health, wellness and unity of the northeast community, the building hosts a range of recreational, social, cultural and corporate events and provides amenities for this diverse and growing quadrant of the city.
Ground Cubed was responsible for the planning, design and construction administration of the Phase 2 Landscape. Design features include an axial promenade connecting through the main entrance of the building to the north to a future high school. The walk features architectural seat walls framing a large multi-purpose gathering space, rows of trees, seating areas and large public plazas on either end containing public art installations. The facility also features three sand base sports play fields.
All surface drainage from the parking areas is directed into grassed swales which have the capacity to contain one in five year storm events. Larger rainfall events are captured in underground storage and playfields before any run off enters the Nose Creek watershed.
