The master plan for the Rotary Mattamy Greenway established the vision for a 138 km continuous pathway around the City of Calgary featuring numerous active and passive amenities. By encircling the city, the Greenway directly connects 55 communities and over 400,000 Calgarians. This project scale ensured a wide range of participants in the planning process, requiring liaison with residents, community associations, developers, consultants, City of Calgary staff, City Councillors and various Ministries of the Province. At the most basic level, the mandate of the Greenway is to provide a free and accessible recreational amenity to all Calgarians.
The Greenway has had numerous opportunities for public input and engagement. These have included community and Parks Foundation Calgary open house sessions, formal meetings with community associations and residents, informal engagement opportunities at public information sessions, publications, councillor open houses and trade shows. Grounding the engagement efforts are clear, transparent and defendable records of the decision making process which have been documented and presented to the Parks Foundation Calgary Board, all of which are available to the public.
